Joe’s back story is, that we adopted him from a humane society in Boone, NC. He is a Flat-coated Retriever and was thought to be around 5 years old then. There were plenty of puppies and more energetic dogs, but poor Joe Black (the HS named him & it stuck) didn’t even lift his head when he was laying in the sun on cool spring day. He was brought into the humane society by someone who said he just wondered up on their deck and didn’t want to leave.

We said to each other, this old man needs a big bed in a loving home.

He was very laid back. We took him for a trail walk that day, to see what his temperament was. He saw the stream, next to the trail and instantly, we knew he was a water dog!!

We got him in March of 2005, so we think he is 12 or 13 now. He is going very deaf and blind, but keeps on ticking. He is the first and oldest of our 6 dogs and fits perfectly into our pack

Happy New Year! I am an 11 year old Westie and my name is Sailor, but I may need to change it to Lucky! Not only have I been lucky…

Happy New Year! I am an 11 year old Westie and my name is Sailor, but I may need to change it to Lucky! Not only have I been lucky during the past several weeks, but I know I have been very fortunate and blessed to have Dr. Brian Burnham & Dr. Liz Bolbach taking care of me. I have been through a hard time, but ALL of the people at Perry Animal Hospital have a lot to do with the fact that I am still here. I love them so much!

It all started out as a bright, sunny day in November so I was busy running & playing outside with my dog brothers. The delivery truck dropped off a package and the wheels had some very interesting smells. I am quite curious so of course I had to check them out. Oops, oh no! I guess I was a little too close and the driver didn’t see me when he drove away. Oh my goodness, that really hurt! My mom & dad rushed me to the vet and they were right there waiting for me which made my parents feel much better.

Dr. Burnham checked me out carefully and knew that I had some broken bones and a dislocated hip. They gave me some medicine so I started to feel better. I stayed with the special people at the vet so they could take care of me during the next few days. The worst part happened during the next week. The blood vessels on my back had been damaged so a large part of my skin wasn’t living any more. This was not good at all. It didn’t really hurt but it did feel strange. My parents were really worried because there was a lot of skin to repair and it looked so terrible, but Dr. Burnham did it!! He fixed me! Dr. Burnham, Dr. Bolbach and their staff worked very hard during my 2 hour surgery. They stitched me up and called my parents to tell them that I did great.

My new nickname was “Franken-sailor” (instead of Frankenstein, you know) which we all thought was pretty cute. I had lots of pink stitches across my back so I looked like my nickname for sure. I was doing so well that I was able to go home the next day. Boy, was I happy to be home, even though I had to stay in my kennel with that crazy lamp shade thing on my head and some tubes on my back. I got pretty sick again with an infection, but of course Dr. Burnham knew exactly what to do. I felt so much better after they gave me some great medicine and cleaned up all my wounds.

A couple of weeks ago I had another surgery and Dr. Burnham fixed my dislocated hip. I am back at home now sniffing around my yard and starting to get back to normal. It’s been so much fun to play with my brothers and chase the cat, too. I wish my hair would hurry up and grow back because it’s really cold outside lately! I am hopping a little on my new hip, but I am so happy to be here and to be home! One of my favorite things to do is lie on the front porch in the sunshine. What a great life!

The people at Perry Animal Hospital are awesome! When I was there (which has been a total of about 16 days) they took the best care of me every single day. They talked to me, petted me, fed me and loved me (and let me tell you I was a very scary looking dog!) They even called my parents often and answered all of their many questions. My mom says she has learned a lot from them, because they explain everything very well and always take time for her. Our whole family loves them so much and we are very thankful for all that they did for me!! Like I said, I am ONE LUCKY DOG!!

Born June 3 2000 as K C Queen of Hearts, this sweet little cocker spaniel came to us at the age of six months. It did not take long to win our hearts, since she is an excellent dog in every aspect. Casey is exceptional when it comes to traveling, as she makes the 14 hour trip between Georgia and Ohio, but loves any time she can go for a ride. She loves her walks too, but can not take the long walks she was use to. She is a dog that loves and cares for everyone she comes in contact with, especially children. Since being diagnosed with Cushing’s disease, Casey spends most of her days now lying around the house, and on the air vents in the summer time. She has received first-rate care and is doing great thanks to Dr Burnham, Dr Bolbach and staff.

Sophie enjoys playing with the frisbee and LOVES stealing socks! Sophie is a bit of a chicken so I appreciate the extra time Dr. Burnham and his staff take to make her feel more comfortable.
Thanks for everything!

Hi everyone. My name is Laird Whitey Gilreath King but my friends call me Whitey. I live with my Mom and Dad at Haynesville. Dr. Brian Burnham and his staff at the Perry Animal Hospital have taken care of me my whole life and I will be 14 years old on Aug 29. I love long walks on the property with my Dad and playing chase in the house with my toys. My favorite place to vacation is Vogel State Park in the North Georgia Mountains. I always make lots of friends when we go there. Two of my new friends, Ms Laurel and Ms Alicia that I met on my last trip to Vogel sent a letter telling me they bought a brick with my name on it to be placed in a walkway at Vogel so everyone will remember me. They are very nice ladies. I always enjoy meeting everyone and try to be charming. As I have gotten older I have had some problems with my eyes. Dr. Burnham sent me to Dr. Powell in Atlanta and she and Dr. Burnham are working together to save my eyesight. (Dr. Powell has Vanessa and Clay who work with her and they always are happy to see me) If your humans are looking for a wonderful Doctor and staff to take care of you for your lifetime please tell them to take you to Perry Animal Hospital. You will love everyone there. This is one of my favorite times of year because the fig trees are just full of ripe figs. I find the first ripe one and the last ripe one and we say a prayer that I will be here for the next fig season. May all of you be blessed with a healthy and happy life.

Love Whitey the Westie.

Bear is a Chocolate Labrador Retriever. He is twelve years old. I got Bear when he was eight weeks old. I named him Bear because he looked like a bear cub. He is an inside dog. I call him The King of the house because he has the run of the house. He is a very loving, caring and active dog. He is very protective of his mommy. He spends most of his day lying on my bed when I’m’ not at home. When he hears the garage door open the first thing he does is head for the door to meet me when I come in. This really makes my day especially when I’ve had a rough day. He is always under my feet watching what I do and follows me everywhere I go inside or outside. He enjoys his walks outside and very much likes to go for rides in the car. People say he walks me rather than me walking him. My boyfriend says he would make a great sled dog. BEAR IS MY BEST FRIEND.

CaT (pronounced see-ah-tee) CaT came into our lives in May 1995. He was about 8 weeks old. He was born in a barn where several horses also lived in Lincoln, CA. The barn owner, who was a co-worker of my husband’s, brought him and a couple of his sisters to work one day hoping that she could give them to people that she knew. My husband and I were not planning to get another cat at that time since we already had two cats, but it was love at 1st sight for my husband. He called me at work and asked me to go by his office to see the kitten….I did and I could not say no. CaT was such a beautiful kitten and so sweet. So, he went home with us that day. I came up with his name using the word cat because my good friend had a dog named DoG (pronounced dee-o-gee).

Didn’t take us long to discover that when we whistled he would come to us. Found out that the coworker would whistle to call her horses to eat. Like whistling for a dog…he is special companion. He was also a calming influence for one of our older cats, Sassi. Sassi would bite our noses everytime we held her; but after CaT came to live with us, she quit biting. Although my husband wanted him, he has always been my cat. He is quite the lap cat; I can’t sit down anywhere without him in my lap. He has slept next to me every night since he was a kitten. He is a very easy going cool cat. A vet in California told me that he is a male calico; it is not very common for males to be calico’s.

In June 1998, due to job transfers, we moved from Foresthill, California to Warner Robins, GA with CaT and the other two cats. From 1995 to 2010, CaT was very healthy, he never went to the vet except for his annual shots. However; now that he is going on 16 he has kidney issues and is on medication to help his kidneys function properly. At this time, he is eating well and still plays with the other cats. We don’t know how much longer he will be with us, but we are blessed to have him in our lives for so many years.

We rescued John when he was about 3 weeks old. He is now 14 months old. I bottle fed him until he was about 3 months old because he wouldn’t eat cat food. He just wanted to nurse. He was born with a liver shunt and heart murmur. John is also mentally challenged. He will be on daily medications for the rest of his life. It didn’t take me very long to realize that he was a very special baby. For the first seven months he wanted to be held all the time so I would hold him for 3 or 4 hours every day. Its like having a baby again. God really blest me when He gave John to me. John loves to play with my other cats and he loves to chase the little cat balls around the floor. He helps me fold clothes every day. He jumps in the basketful of clothes and plays. When its time for bed he will rest his sweet little head on my shoulder and we will both go to sleep.

I am so thankful to Dr. Burnham, Dr. Liz and the entire staff at Perry Animal Hospital. They are the best. I know my babies are in the best of care.
